Central Heating systems come in various forms. A heating boiler, radiator and pipework are common components in many of these Gas Central Heating Systems, they are simple in plumbing terms.





Air conditioning is not a priority for residents of Europe and northern countries as these regions experience cold weather most of the year with short duration summers. Today a good Gas Central Heating system has become a major part of every home, so much so that it is being installed in all the new houses that are being constructed.

Pumped/vented and sealed are the two main types of Gas Central Heating Systems on the market.





Pumped or vented Gas Central Heating systems are most popularly used. An expansion tank is present in a pumped heating system. The hot water storage tank provides your home with warm water and brings heat to the radiators. When the water expands as it is heated the expansion tank allows for this. The tank is placed in the highest place, normally the attic area. It performs dual functions by providing hot water and heating up the house.





Older homes generally have pumped/vented Gas Central Heating systems.





A slightly newer gas boiler is sealed heating system and this is the preferred central heating system in newer properties. As the name indicates, a sealed system is a an enclosed system therefore no expansion water tanks are needed. The attic has no tanks or piping, the system is completely enclosed and locked, it's not ventilated, and that has its advantages:.





- The problem of freezing pipes is eliminated.





- There won't be any repair work on the tank or pipes which will be in the attic for a pumped/vented system.





- The risk of leakage is reduced as there are fewer pipes and the system is less complex.





- The air cannot enter the system as its sealed and hence there are lesser chances of sludge, corrosion and airlocks developing.





- It is possible to flush out the system if required by using the mains water supply.





All the required controls and safety devices are incorporated into the sealed Central Heating systems. The mains water supplies the water required for the sealed Central Heating system. The pressure of the main water supply benefits the hot water outlets and gives a healthy shower.





Pressure variation can be regulated by a pressure vessel holding compressed gas; the hot water is pressurized by a diaphragm which also separates the water from the compressed gas. The safety valve opens up when the pressure in the system rises so that water can escape through it, on the other hand it opens up when the pressure drops down so that the water can refill the system.





Overall Central Heating Systems offer more value for money as equated to alternative heating systems as they can be very efficient. Moreover, they offer all kinds of control, which are usually not found in other heating systems giving you a more enjoyable environment.
